KXLU Redesign Concept
KXLU is a college radio station in LMU that has been running for over 60 years now. It is one of the only radio stations that play upcoming music and demos that range from punk, dance, death metal, Latin, and classical orchestra music.

The Challenge
A legacy of current and past DJ is what makes KXLU so unique. Each radio DJ have the freedom to create their own program as well as creating their own personal theme. This leads to small cult following of music enthusiast. It has been tradition
Live Dj Set
The homepage highlight the DJ that is currently live, as well the upcoming radio shows. Each DJ usually posts their playlist after the show ends, so I wanted a way for users to easily capture that information by knowing more detail about the DJ.
Weekly Schedule
The weekly schedule allows users to easily view all show times and dates. This hopefully lets the user knows when their favorite DJ will be playing.
Easier Music Discovery
As a listener and supporter of KXLU, one of my biggest pain points is searching up the music that a DJ had just played. Either listeners have to memorize the playlist at the end of the show or they can look through their social media accounts, which DJ’s may take their time on. With this new design approach, I want the playlist to be access all in one place.
The Solution
What the original KXLU website lack was the feeling of music entertainment. Some competitive audits that I looked at were companies in the music industry such as Spotify, Pitchforks, and even attending live music event. I wanted this redesign to feel the pandemonium energy of music.
Local Music News
KXLU is completely non-profit. Their whole team are volunteers ranging from musicians, journalist, reviewers, and photographers. The news section provides them a space to share any upcoming events or interesting articles. I wanted the design of the news page to feel like a complete immersion of music information.
Merch Donations
Merchandise is one of the forms that KXLU gets its donations. From attending KXLU events, a lot of people do enjoy showing off their support. I simplified their shopping experience to more recognizable web store layout. I also had fun designing these KXLU Merchandise.
